Green School Gates

Design from one of the school workshops.

Challenge

The project was to co-design and build a pair of biodiverse garden and growing area installations for and with primary school children and their associated community in the Royal Docks. This is a creative ecology initiative organised by experienced designers and horticulturalists in partnership with Britannia Village and Drew Primary Schools.

Solution

I worked with Year 5 students in two schools in Silvertown and North Woolwich to design a set of school gate allotments, and seating areas. I created drawings for each location, where after enquiry about the user requirements, urban greening, growing and site visits, they drew their dream allotments. Group works led to a consensus of the styling, materials and placement of the allotments which have now been built.
