Gloucester Park Trails

Overview

Trails maps and signage directed by 4 community groups.

Challenge

Gloucester Park in the heart of Basildon town centre - the hills were created out of soil excavated in building

the new housing estates surrounding it. However there is a general avoidance of the park even though it’s only a few minutes walk form the main shopping centre. This is down to not know it’s there  and fears over safety. Subsequently only a limited number of people use it to pass though. This means the general community can’t enjoy its lakes, woodland and  magnificent views of the town.

Solution

Over the course of 4 months, I spoke with four community groups about Gloucester Park and what it means to them, in a series of workshops and walks. The resulting insights and artworks inspired the routes and marker designs.

Outcome

The maps were handed out at the main library and other cultural events, I created a children’s scavenger hunt quiz and community group guide for those groups in the future who want to lead walks using the routes.
